    Fabulous Festival Fashion

    by Louise Kilburn • June 30th 2010

So, we're halfway through the festival season and i'm already beginnning to see four distinct fashion tribes appear. No matter which festival you're attending, whether it be Glastonbury or Greenfields, you're sure to fall into one of these categories. So read on to find out what kind of festival goer you are, and how we can help you enjoy your festival of choice in style!

First festival fashion tribe has to be the good old Bohemian Babe's! Think Kate Moss and Sienna Miller grunging it up at Glasto or Coachella. The Bohemian Babe loves tie-dye, ruffles, florals, and denim shorts - all put together in a slightly crumpled way, as if you've just pulled the first four thigs out of your rucksack and thrown them on!! As the night descends into morning, you'll hop into your bell tent, light your incense sticks and party on until daybreak!!!

The compete opposite of the Bohemian Babe is the Rock Chic tribe!! For this look you need to channel Alexa Chung or Emma Watson, and hang out at Leeds or Reading Festival! Leather and ripped denim lead the way, with a smattering of studs and skulls - and any colour goes as long as its Black! When night falls you'll be found ripping it up in front of the main stage - hey sleepings for wimps!!!

Pauls Boutique Biker Jacket ClubL Lips Sequin T-shirt Ringspun Belted Skirt Apple Bottoms Monique Welly

A more recent addition to the Festival scene is the Flouro Fitbit!! Think Marina and Katy Perry channeling the 1990s rave look with a lot of wit! Layers are the way forward and any fabric goes as long as its neon bright and colour-clashing!! Slap on the flouro facepaint and get ready to party all day and all night! Sleeping? Ha, I don't know which raves you went to but I don't remember having a nap break!

Henleys Marithe Vest Top Firetrap Houston Jeans Reebok Freestyle Hi Trainer Cuba Luxury Style Watch

Last but not least are those of us who like to think of ourselves as Glamper's! We like the idea of lazing in the sun and catching our favourite acts at V festival, but we don't have to slum it to do it!! We'll stay at the nearest five star hotel of course - hey, a girl needs her hot shower and hair straightners to survive! You'll be able to spot the happy glamper a mile of - she's the one in the floaty maxi or sequinned playsuit with flawless hair and make-up and a smattering of bling!

    Schools Out (well nearly)!

    by Louise Kilburn • June 24th 2010

It’s that time of year again - our thoughts are turning to the kids finishing school for the summer and how we're going to entertain them over the holiday, but the smartest amongst us will already be thinking about them going back to school in the autumn. Back to school is like a military campaign in our house - morning routines to be sorted, lunches to be made, and clothes to be bought - it can be quite daunting. The trick to smoothing the way back to school I’ve found, is to start organising everything as early as possible before everything goes out of stock!!! So, with the help of getthelabel.com I’ve already started getting the three essential items sorted: shoes, bags and coats.

One of the most important items to get right is the coat. There are loads of different styles out there so you’re bound to find something that keeps both you and the kids happy! The most popular amongst parents tends to be the waterproof style as they tend to be more hardwearing and are generally just the thing to protect the kids against the great British weather!! For the lads we’ve got Helly Hanson Aden Jacket which comes in both Navy and Black – this jacket is really practical as it is made out of a breathable fabric which will keep your little cherub more comfortable when he’s charging around the playground!! For the older lad, something like the Timberland Weather Gear Hard Shell Jacket is a great choice, because it is a great mix of style and practicality – especially with the hood. Another popular coat option for back to school, is the padded jacket. Keep your little lady protected against the elements with the Adidas Adigirl Q4 jacket in a gorgeous shade of pink – it has a really cute feature on the pocket too: a see-through love heart where you can insert different backgrounds for a different look – I’m sure she’ll love it. If she’s grown out of the pink stage – and all girls do at some point!! – then how about the Gio Goi Fur hooded jacket? I love the fur trim on the hood and its bang on trend for winter.

For the older lad who sees himself as a bit of a style icon, how about a long line biker type jacket? They pick up perfectly on the winter trend for country style, and we’ve got some great examples with cool details like padding and zips. My personal favourite is the Nanny state Belted 23 Coat which has got loads of practical pockets but just looks so cool. If your Princess sees herself as a fashionista then don’t worry we’ve got her covered too – just look at how gorgeous this Gio Goi Robinson Multi Wool trench is! I love the embossed detail at the bottom of the sleeves, and the button detailing is very cute.

Nanny State Belted 23 Coat Gio Goi Robinson Multi Wool Trench Coat

Shoes are one of the key items to get right , and they can be quite a minefield because her ladyship wants to be trendy and I want her to be sensible!!! A good compromise is something like the Hello Kitty Mara Shoe because it is a ballet style flat shoe with an elasticated strap so it ticks all the boxes for sensible old mum, but the Hello Kitty logo on the front and rear of the shoe makes it interesting enough for her!! Back to School shoes have never looked so good!! If your little princess is not a Hello Kitty fan, then how about the Kangaroos Lamb Junior? Again a great strap and flat sole to keep mum happy, but a cute bow and platform detail to keep madam happy. Result. If your little lady is a bit older, then don't worry we can sort out her back to school shoe too - how about the Playboy Miss Party shoe? If the name worries you, then don't panic it’s a great little ballet pump style with a fab buckle detail on the front - perfect for your budding fashionista. However, if you want something a little plainer, how about the Rocketdog Veronica Shoe? This is a great all-rounder with Mary Jane styling and a gorgeous floral button detail on the strap. Perfect.

Hello Kitty Mara Junior Shoe Kangaroos Lamb Junior Playboy Miss Party Rocketdog Veronica Shoe

For the lads a smart lace-up is always a good option – keeps the head happy too!! I think the Frank Wright Silva shoe is really classy, but not every school allows brown shoes so the other option is something a bit more casual like the Firetrap Criminal – not sure about the name but the shoe is comfy enough for him to run about the yard, but smart enough to keep him in the teachers good books! If your lad prefers a slip-on style then how about the Rockport Hancock – this is a lovely looking shoe, and best thing is it dispenses with the need to mess about with shoe laces in the morning.

Frank Wright Silva Shoe Rockport Hancock Shoes

Last, but not least, we come to the very essential bag!! How else are your future leaders of industry going to get their books and lunch to school?! The backpack seems to be the tried and tested favourite of kids all over the country – what’s not to like?! Easy to throw things in, zip up, throw on back of off back to school they go!!! For the lads, how about the Billabong Solbury backpack with free wetsuit bag? Free wetsuit bag I hear you say – well bear with me on this one – I’m thinking you could use the free wetsuit bag as a pencil case!!! Genius! For the ladies, I’m liking the Roxy Get Away backpack with its cute pink flower embroidery on the front – mainly black to keep the fashionista happy but with a splash of pink to keep the little princess happy – perfect.

So that’s me and the kids sorted for back to school – hope I’ve helped you and your family out too. Happy shopping!

    Have A Fantastic Father's Day

    by Louise Kilburn • June 16th 2010

So it’s that time of year again – yes this Sunday is Fathers Day, in case you hadn’t realised!! This is the day we traditionally use to say thank you to our dad’s for being dad’s by giving them a small token of our appreciation i.e. a present!! Other countries do it differently though – in Germany, they go for an all male hike with a wagon full of beer and food, and in Thailand they present their fathers and grandfathers with a flower. As much as I like the idea of giving my dad flowers – I’m not sure how well this would go down with him so I’m sticking to the time old favourite of a new jumper!! If you’re dad is like mine – here’s my pick of some last minute ideas of what to get him:

Obviously football is everywhere at the moment, a real national obsession, with the World Cup being on – so you probably can’t go wrong with a England related shirt. We’ve got a lot to choose from, from sleeveless tops to crew neck t-shirts, but my pick would have to be the White England Appliqué Polo – I especially like the navy stripe down the back! This polo will be great for him to wear down the pub to watch the game, it will go well with his trackie bottoms on the sideline, and will work with his jeans when he and the kids go to the park – result!

If footballs not his thing, or he has already got his quota of England shirts!!, how about a new t-shirt? We’ve got a great new brand here at getthelabel.com, called Teddy Smith. It’s a French brand which began its life in 1989 with the ambition to reinvent the men’s jeans concept by offering several men’s designer clothing collections based around its denim. They are particularly good at graphic t-shirts, and my favourite has to be the Txalo T in blue. It's a fab bright shade, perfect for summer – and the logo print is a real talking point! Your dad will be a trend-setter – he's sure to be the first among his friends to discover this brand!

    Teddy Smith Txalo T-shirt

If your dad is more of a shirt than a t-shirt dad, then we've got just the thing for him too!! How about the Jack Jones Tux Short Sleeve Shirt. Checks are a big trend for summer, and most men like checks anyway – a quick count in my hubbys wardrobe reveals he is the proud owner of 15 check shirts!! The great thing about this particular shirt is the colours – white, blue and grey – and the size of the check. The pocket detailing is cute too, and I also love the printed logo on the back – what's not to like about this shirt? If your dad is into something plainer though, how about the Duck and Cover Ray Long Sleeve Shirt? A great long sleeve shirt in pale blue, with just enough detailing to keep the trendy amongst you happy, but not too much detailing to scare your dad - & remember it is his day at the end of it!!!

Jack Jones Tux Short Sleeve Shirt Duck and Cover

If like me, your dad is a bit of a knitwear fan – well he is off a certain age!!, then don't worry – we've got some great knitwear to choose from. I've bagged my dad the Navy Timberland Merino V-neck as his pressie – because it's a lovely thin knit which will look great over his shirt but won't bulk him out too much under his winter coat. Although you probably think I’m crazy buying knitwear in the middle of a heatwave, trust me my dad will be very grateful when the weather turns colder again – and that all that matters!!! He's not one for dealing with cold weather well is my dad!

    Timberland Merino V-Neck

And this year I'd better not forget my lovely hubby – because it's his first father's day as a daddy – ahhhhhh. So, my son will be buying his daddy a pair of New Mexican Jeans by Voi Jeans – to replace the last pair which he has worn to death!!! These jeans are full of fab details – lots of stitching, loads of cool pockets, and the Voi logo embroidered on the back pockets – cute or what?! So, that's my pick of what to buy your dad for Father's Day – hope all you daddies out there have a great day with your families.

The Doom and Gloom of Exams – But Summer is nearly here – Paaaaarty Time!

    by Rose Nylund • June 11th 2010

It was a good 10 years ago since I sat my GCSE exams, and I do not envy those of you who are sitting them now. The build up to them is much worse than the exams themselves, you soon realise that exams are not the be all and end all, but the feeling you get when you have completed an exam is great, such relief, and another exam to cross off the list. And even better when you've finished your final one, it was party planning time for me. “Who is having a party this summer? Is Andy 'Hot Stuff' Dootson going? What shall I wear to impress?

Here are some styles to inspire you for all those celebratory summer parties:

The Rose Ruffle Dress by Club L is so cute and Summery and the blush pink colours are bang on trend for this summer.

The Ruby Rocks Tye Die Maxi by Ruby Rocks is a must. Everyone's wearing the Maxi dress this summer, and tye die has been resurrected and is back in fashion, seen on all the Spring Summer '10 Catwalks – plus spotted on the likes of Kate Moss and Cheryl Cole, so this dress is perfect as it ticks both boxes.

Ruby Rocks Ruby Rocks Tye Die Maxi

The SS Floral Dress by Ribbon is gorgeous. I bought this one for myself! I think it's a great summer daytime dress to hang out in town with, teamed with a nice brown belt, and some gold jewellery – you’ll be stopping people in their tracks!

    Ribbon SS Floral Dress

Martyr Logo T and Attrix Kick Flare jeans both by Red or Dead is the Cool and Casual option. Head to the summer garden party in a Tee and Jeans and you’ll be the girl who everyone’s saying looks effortlessly stylish, because you’re the popular girl who has too many parties to attend.

    Stay Stylish This Summer

    by Louise Kilburn • June 10th 2010

Having just returned from a week’s holiday, my thoughts are definitely on what constitutes the best capsule wardrobe for summer! Every time me and the other half go away we pack enough for three months even though we’re only going for a week!!!! He’s actually worse than me – we stayed in a caravan for a week and he took 10 shirts!!!! We only went out once!! And don’t get me started on his 5 year old swimming shorts!! So to help all you hopeless packers out, here’s my run-down of what’s hot in menswear for this summer.

Firstly, polo shirts are back in a big way for summer, becoming even more popular than the t-shirt. Forget boring white though, the most stylish polo shirts are brightly coloured such as yellow, pink and red. Look for ways to add interest to such as with a detailed collar. Voi Jeans has really picked up on this trend this year, and produced some fab colourways - my personal favourite being the pink, but the mint green is also a great option for those who are new to colour!

    Voi Jeans Redford Polo

Checked shirts are a perennial feature in the wardrobe of most men I know, so you should be pleased to discover that they were strongly featured on the catwalks for summer. Freshen up your checked shirt collection by adding an unusual colourway, such as the Jack & Jones Tux Shirt in Blue and Brown. Levis also do a good range of checked shirts in red, navy and green.

Jack Jones Tux Short Sleeve Shirt

White is always a great summer colour – nothing is as easy to wear and keeps you cool, so it’s great news that the white shirt is still a style staple. Look for slimmer fitting styles or textured materials to differentiate yourself from the crowd. My favourite is the Firetrap Speckles Short Sleeve Shirt which has a self coloured stripe running through, and great pocket detailing.

    Firetrap Speckles Shirt

Cardigans have made a return to popularity, as the cover up to be seen in for summer. Ideally you’re looking for a lightweight cotton one, as this will help to keep you feeling cool as well as looking cool. To stay sharp, look for one in a co-ordinating colour to your polo shirt or checked shirt. Voi Jeans have got a couple of fab examples, in green and blue – which you should be able to mix and match with most things.

    Voi Jeans Ace Swirl Cardigan

Another knitwear option is the v-neck sweater. A lightweight sweater can be worn over a polo shirt, t-shirt or shirt in the cooler evenings, or tied round the neck or waist as an accessory during the day. Henleys do a great v-neck sweater which has a whiff of the cricket sweater about it in the cable knit, but the turquoise and yellow colourways save it from being too twee.

    Henleys Shakespear Knit

Shorts are without doubt a summer wardrobe staple, and this year it’s all about the pocket – the more pockets on your shorts the better!! Perfect for carrying all those little essentials such as cash, mobile and card!! Cargo shorts are definitely a good buy this summer as they pick up on the utility trend too - you can get some great khaki ones of course, but my favourites have to be the Nike navy Ground Check ones, as they just seem a little different to the norm but not so out there that they scare anyone!!!

    Nike Ground Check Cargo Shorts

Jeans, jeans, jeans – a man can never have enough pairs of jeans!! For summer, you should be looking at subtle denim washes rather than the dark indigo denim which has been dominating the streets for the past few years. My favourites are the Mish Mash Renzo 1988 Jeans with their great pale wash, and fab pocket detailing on the back.

    Mish Mash Renzo 1988 Jeans

So that’s my pick of what the stylish man about town should have in his wardrobe for summer – happy holidays!
