adidas: One Brand, Four Visions

July 2, 2018

Did you know that adidas is split into a handful of sub-brands? There’s not just adidas, oh no – that would be too easy wouldn’t it! One of the biggest ways to spot it is that sometimes the adidas logo is 3 stripes, other times it’s a trefoil (those three leaf shapes with the strpies running through).

If you’ve never noticed a difference in adidas clothing, get ready for some learning – we’re about to introduce you to not one, but four sub-brands of adidas that each has its own specific vision and purpose.

adidas Originals logo

adidas Originals

Probably the most well known thanks to the iconic trefoil, adidas Originals is the brand that brought us (and continues to deliver) Gazelles, Superstars and Stan Smiths. It has a more retro feel, harkening to the adidas of the ‘80s and breathing new life into classic, iconic pieces.

Here are some of our favourite adidas Originals:

adidas by Stella McCartney

The unstoppable team that is adidas and Stella McCartney are taking sportswear to new heights of style, combining fashion and performance in a way that has never been done before (although copycats have sprung up since the collaboration began in 2004).

The collection continues to deliver, with pieces designed especially for yoga, swimming and running to provide freedom of movement.

y-3 logo

Y-3

The product of another collaboration, this time with renowned designer Yohji Yamamoto. That’s what the Y in the name stands for; the 3 represents the three stripes of adidas, and the dash symbolises the bond that binds them together.

Y-3 offers a new take on some classic adidas styles like Stan Smiths and Pure Boosts, while boasting its very own signature pieces. The luxury collection is instantly recognisable with its neutral, dark colourway and the fusion of daringly simple craftsmanship.

men's y-3 zip superstar trainers
The zip and thread detail plus the black colourway gives these shoes a grunge feel – not your typical adidas!
y-3 men's long sleeve t-shirt
So simple, yet so different! This t-shirt is a statement in itself.

adidas

The over-arching brand that features a little bit of everything. Anything that doesn’t fit into one of the above brands will be found in here in our miscellaneous adidas category! Some of the gems include:

men's adidas trainers
Simple, stylish and under 30 quid. We reckon that’s a winning deal.
women's adidas skull top
A top with skulls and jewels from adidas…who’d have thought?
